II-A-3. GEORGE LEONARD SIEBERT (1866 – 1947), son of of Isaac Lasseter Sibert3 (George2, John David1)

George Leonard Siebert, the son of Isaac L. and Sarah P. (Lyon) Siebert, was born on 12 January 1866 in Troy, Greenwood County, South Carolina. [1][2] He died on 26 July 1947 in Fort Pierce, St. Lucie County, Florida. [1][3] He married Cornelia ___. [1] She was born on 16 July 1872 in Georgia. [1] She died on 2 March 1962. [1] George and Cornelia are buried in the Riverview Memorial Park in Fort Pierce. [1]

According to the census, on 16 June 1900, George L., born in January 1866 in South Carolina, and Nelly, born in July 1872 in Georgia, lived with George's parents, Isaac L. and Sara, in Quitman, Brooks County, Georgia. They had been married for 11 years and had had four children: Lorena, born in September 1892 in Florida; George C., born in August 1893 in Georgia; Ruth, born in October 1895 in Georgia; and "Linod," born in February 1899 in Georgia. George [Sr.] was a railroad clerk. [4]

George and his family moved to Valdosta, Lowndes County, Georgia in 1908. [3] On 20 April 1910, George L., aged 43, and Cornelia, aged 37, lived in a rented house in Militia District 663 in Lowndes County, Georgia. They had been married for 21 years and had had six children: Evelyn, aged 18; George L, aged 16; Ruth, aged 13; Lenard, aged 11; Isaac, aged seven; and Margrette, aged five. All the children were born in Georgia. George's parents, Isaac and Sallie P., also lived with them. George L. and Evelyn were telegraph operators, George [Jr.] was a clerk in a bakery, and Ruth and Lenard attended school. [4]

On 3 January 1920, G.L., aged 54, and Cornelia, aged 4[illegible], lived in Valdosta in their own house with their children Leonard R., aged 20; Ike, aged 16; and Margrette, aged 15. G.L. was a train dispatcher, Leonard was a college student, and Ike and Margrette attended school. [4]

In 1923, Geo. L. and Cornelia lived at 700 Oak Street in Valdosta with their daughter Margt. E. George was a dispatcher and Margaret was a student. [5] The family left Valdosta in 1924. [3]

On 4 April 1930, George L., aged 64, and Cornelia, aged 56, lived in a rented house in Macon, Bibb County, Georgia with their son Isaac C., aged 26, and two boarders. George was a train dispatcher and Isaac was an accountant for a laundry. [4]

By 1935, George and his family had moved to Tifton, Tift County, Georgia. On 24 April 1940, G.L., aged 74, and Cornelia, aged 67, lived there in their own house with their unmarried son, G.L., Jr., aged 47. G.L., Sr. and Cornelia had completed the fifth grade; G.L., Jr. had finished three years of high school. G.L., Sr. was unable to work; G.L., Jr. was a carpenter. [4]

George and Cornelia moved from Tifton to Fort Pierce about 1944. [3]

According to his obituary, George—a retired train dispatcher—died in a hospital in Fort Pierce, aged 81. He was survived by his wife; his three daughters, Mrs. Walter M. Rogers and Mrs. Margaret Goodlett of Fort Pierce and Mrs. W.N. Knight of Buckroe Beach, Virginia; his three sons, George L. Siebert of Louisville, Kentucky and Robert L. Siebert and Isaac Siebert of Atlanta; and his brother, Arthur H., of Perry, Florida. [3]

In 1950, Cornelia lived in Fort Pierce with her daughter Margaret Goodlett. [4]

II-A-3-a. Lorena Evelyn Siebert was born on 7 September 1891 or 1892 in Florida or Georgia. [1] She died on 4 August 1966. [1][6] She married Walter M. Rogers on 28 October 1915 in Irwin County, Georgia. [7] Walter was born on 18 October 1883 and died on 23 June 1965. [1] Evelyn and Walter are buried in the Riverview Memorial Park. [1]

In 1913, Evelyn lived with her parents in Valdosta and worked as a bookkeeper. [5]

Walter was the judge of a Small Claims Court. [6]

Children of Walter M. Rogers and Lorena Evelyn Siebert:

i. Walter S. Rogers was born on 6 April 1916 and died on 23 February 1924. [1] He is buried in the Riverview Memorial Park. [1]

ii. Major Jack Loraine Rogers was born on 12 August 1919 and died on 15 February 1973. [1][8] He married Lucy Jane Gray Carlton on 5 February 1941. [1][9] She was born on 11 December 1920 and died on 21 February 1990. [1] Jack and Lucy are buried in the Riverview Memorial Park. [1]

II-A-3-b. George Leonard Siebert was born on 2 August 1893 in Georgia. [1][10][11] He died on 15 August 1953, aged 60, in Louisville and is buried in the Riverview Memorial Park in Fort Pierce. [1][10] He married Ava L. Leslie on 14 September 1918 in Pulaski County, Arkansas. [12] They later divorced. [10] Alva, the daughter of Farmer and Alta (Maynard) Leslie, was born on 7 December 1892 in Zebulon, Pike County, Kentucky and died on 5 February 1948, aged 55, in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky. [10}

According to his World War I draft registration card, George, singe and aged 23, was of medium height and build, with blue eyes and slightly balding brown hair. He lived at 308 Frances Street in Mobile, Alabama. [11] He was inducted into military service on 22 June 1918 at Camp Pike, Arkansas. [13]

According to his death certificate, George Leonard, the son of George Leonard Siebert, died suddenly of a coronary occlusion at the hotel where he lived. He was a restaurant worker, and said to be a widower. [10]

II-A-3-c. Ruth Elizabeth Siebert was born in October 1895 in Georgia. She died on 18 July 1973 in Cordele, Crisp County, Georgia. [1][14] She married William Marvin Knight. [1] William was born on 10 October 1894 in Lakeland, Lanier County, Georgia and died on 18 January 1971, aged 76, in Hampton, Virginia. [1][15] Ruth and William are buried in the Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton. [1]

William was the post engineer at Fort Monroe in Hampton. He was a veteran of World War I. [15]

According to her obituary, Ruth was survived by two children; her sister Margaret Goodlett of Fort Pierce; her brother Leonard Siebert of Atlanta; and her brother Ike Siebert of Milleyeville, Georgia. [14]

Children of William Marvin Knight and Ruth Elizabeth Sibert:

i. William Marvin Knight was born on 22 April 1927 and died on 3 December 2011. [1] He married Ann Lawson Amory. [1] She was born on 29 July 1928 and died on 10 September 1979. [1] William and Ann are buried in the Parklawn Memorial Park. [1]

II-A-3-d. Leonard Robert "Sam" Siebert was born on 14 February 1899 in Quitman [1][11][16][17][18] He died on 1 June 1984 in Atlanta. [1][16][18] He married first Sara Augusta Wright on 10 September 1927. [1][19] She was born in 1906 and died on 13 May 1965. [1] Leonard married second, as her second husband, Agnes Demaris Allen. [1] Agnes was born on 8 May 1904 and died on 4 June 1991. [1] She married first Dr. James Marion Alsobrook. [1] He was born on 15 January 1901 and died on 13 August 1962. [1] Leonard and Sara are buried in the Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Fulton County, Georgia. [1]

According to his 12 September 1918 World War I draft registration card, Leonard was a student at the University of Georgia in Athens, and his closest relative was Cornelia F. Seibert. [11] Leonard, aged 19, enrolled as an apprentice seaman on 1 October 1918 and served at the Naval Unit of the University of Georgia in Athens for 41 days. [20]

According to his 18 September 1944 World War II draft registration card, Leonard was employed by the Board of Regents in Atlanta. [17]

According to his obituary, Leonard received a law degree from the University of Georgia in 1922 and taught law at (what is now) Georgia State University. He was executive secretary of the state Medical Education Board. He was executive secretary of the Board of Regents for 32 years. He was survived by his wife, Agnes Allen Siebert, and his sister, Mrs. Margaret Goodlett of Fort Pierce. [18]

II-A-3-e. Isaac "Ike" Cornelius Siebert was born on 23 March 1902, 1903, or 1904 in Quitman. [17, 1904][16, 1903][8, 1902] He died on 15 June 1980. [16][8][21] He is interred in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Tucker, Georgia. [8]

According to his World War II draft registration card, Ike worked at the Depot Restaurant at Union Station in Tifton. His contact was G.L. Siebert. [17] Ike served in the U.S. Army in World War II. [8]

According to his obituary, Ike was survived by his brother Sam of Atlanta and his sister Mrs. Margaret Goodlett of Fort Pierce. [21]

II-A-3-f. Margaret E. Siebert was born about 1904 in Georgia. She married Baxter Goodlett. They subsequently divorced. Baxter died on 19 August 1969 in Fort Lauderdale. [22]

According to his obituary, Baxter was survived by his [subsequent] wife and his daughter Mrs. Marigold Coday. [22]

In 1950, Margaret S. Goodlett was living in Fort Pierce with her daughter Margaret G., aged 16, and her widowed mother, Cornelia F. Seibert. She was a fourth-grade teacher. [4]

Children of Baxter Goodlett and Margaret E. Siebert:

i. Margaret Gold "Marigold" Goodlett was born on 7 February 1933 and died on 23 April 2024. [MGC] She married Captain Arthur Coday on 11 July 1959. [23][24] Arthur was born on 10 July 1926 in New York. [23] He was murdered on 24 February 1980 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. [23]

According to her wedding announcement, Margaret was married by her uncle, Judge Walter M. Rogers. She was the daughter of Margaret Siebert Goodlett. Arthur had attended the Columbia Preparatory School in New York City. He graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. He also attended Williams College and Columbia. He was the manager of an ice cream company. [24]

According to his obituary, Arthur was a veteran of World War II, the Vietnam War, and the Korean War. He was commander of the Naval Reserve Readiness Command in Dallas. He was survived by his wife and three children. [25]

At the time of his death, Arthur was the president of a lock company. [23]

Mrs. Arthur Coday petitioned the U.S. Navy for payments owed her deceased husband, Captain Arthur Coday. The Navy refused to pay on the grounds that she had not be definitively ruled out as a suspect in his death. The General Accounting Office ruled in her favor, saying: [26]

THE RECORD INDICATES THAT ON FEBRUARY 24, 1980, CAPTAIN CODAY WAS SEEN LEAVING A BAR IN DALLAS, TEXAS, AT 1 A.M., WITH AN UNIDENTIFIED MAN. HE WAS FOUND AT 3 A.M. IN HIS CAR WITH A GUNSHOT WOUND IN HIS UPPER LEFT CHEST. MRS. CODAY HAS STATED THAT AT THAT TIME SHE WAS LIVING IN SEATTLE, WASHINGTON. THE DALLAS POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS NOW FURNISHED A STATEMENT TO THE EFFECT THAT MRS. CODAY HAS NOT BEEN IMPLICATED IN THE CASE. SEE LETTER OF JUNE 5, 1981, DEPUTY CHIEF OF POLICE, CITY OF DALLAS. HOWEVER, EVEN BEFORE MRS. CODAY HAD BEEN OFFICIALLY CLEARED OF SUSPICION IN THE DEATH OF HER HUSBAND, THE NAVY, UNDER AVAILABLE FACTS, SHOULD NOT HAVE DENIED HER BENEFITS.
